Chinese New Year 2027 falls on February 6 and opens the Year of the Goat. Here are 58 sheets for the festival, grouped by theme: the twelve Chinese zodiac signs, cartoon zodiac animals for kids, goats for the new year, dragons, lanterns and decorations, festive food and children in holiday clothes.
Chinese zodiac signs
12 pagesThese twelve pages show the signs of the Chinese zodiac as emblems: each animal is drawn realistically inside a round frame decorated with peonies and clouds, the way the signs appear on calendars, paper cuts and lucky charms. The detailed lines suit older kids, teens and adults. To find your sign, count from the year of birth: Rat 2020, Ox 2021, Tiger 2022, Rabbit 2023, Dragon 2024, Snake 2025, Horse 2026, Goat 2027, Monkey 2028, Rooster 2029, Dog 2030 and Pig 2031, then back in steps of twelve. If you were born in January or early February, check the New Year date, because the zodiac year starts with the festival, not on January 1.
Zodiac animals for kids
15 pagesThe same twelve animals as friendly cartoons with big, easy shapes for younger children: a rat with a gold coin, an ox under a lantern, a tiger in the bamboo, a rabbit hugging a lantern, a dragon in the clouds, a snake, a horse, a goat, a monkey with a peach, a rooster, a puppy and a pig. Legend says they earned their places in a great race across a river, which is why they always come in this order. A tiger cub, a realistic tiger portrait and two bunnies under the moon finish the group.
Year of the Goat 2027
4 pagesIn Chinese the word yang means both goat and sheep, so 2027 is called the Year of the Goat, the Year of the Sheep and the Year of the Ram. Each name has its own page here: a goat carrying a lantern in its mouth, a woolly sheep between two plum trees, a mountain ram on a cliff and a baby goat with a bowl of mandarin oranges. The goat sign stands for kindness, calm and creativity, a nice theme for a classroom display at the start of the year.
Chinese dragons
6 pagesThe dragon is the luckiest and most loved creature of the festival. Chinese dragons have long snake-like bodies, four legs and no wings, and they bring rain and good fortune rather than fire. This group goes from a simple baby dragon for kindergarten to a dragon flying over a pagoda, a dragon among lanterns, a large close-up head for patient colorers and a dragon mask that kids can color, cut out and wear in a school parade.
Lanterns, lion dance and decorations
11 pagesRed lanterns, Chinese knots and paper fans decorate homes and streets for fifteen days, until the Lantern Festival closes the holiday. Here you will find a single big lantern, a string of five lanterns, a very simple lantern for preschool, a lotus lantern on a pond, two koi fish for a year of plenty, a Chinese knot with lucky coins, a folding fan, a festival drum, a temple gate, fireworks over a pagoda and the lion from the lion dance, which visits shops and homes to bring luck for the year.
Festive food and red envelopes
6 pagesFood at the New Year is full of meaning. Dumplings look like old silver ingots and promise wealth, a whole fish stands for abundance, long noodles for a long life, mandarin oranges for gold and luck, and sweet rice balls called tangyuan for a family that stays together. Children also receive red envelopes with lucky money. These pages show a reunion dinner table, a bamboo steamer of dumplings, a bowl of tangyuan, a bowl of mandarins, a red envelope and a bowl of gold ingots.
Kids in holiday clothes and cute characters
4 pagesOn New Year's Day children dress in new clothes, often red for luck: a qipao dress for girls and a tang suit jacket with knot buttons for boys. Our girl carries two lanterns and our boy holds a red envelope. Two cute characters join them, a panda waving with a lantern and a kitten in its own little tang suit, both simple enough for preschool and kindergarten.
About these Chinese New Year coloring pages
Red and gold are the lucky colors of the festival, so most children reach for those first, but dragons, koi fish and zodiac emblems look great in every color of the box. Celebrations last fifteen days, from February 6 to the Lantern Festival on February 20, 2027, so Valentine's Day falls right in the middle and the printable Valentine's Day coloring sheets fit the same weeks, while the groundhog sheets for February 2 come just before.
