About this coloring page
Feather by feather, this long-billed wader has been filled with scales, chevrons and fine cross-hatching, then set among fan-shaped blooms that crowd the whole page. A detailed bird coloring page for adults asks for a plan rather than speed: pick a palette of three or four tones and let the pattern carry the rest. Gel pens hold up well in the tighter areas, while the open flower heads take a wash of pencil. The peacock sheet carries similar density, and an owl drawn in the same style gives the eyes somewhere to rest.
